Krishna Janmashtami Date: According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Shri Krishna. The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with great pomp all over India. This festival is also known by different names like Krishna Janmashtami, Sri Jayanti, Gokulashtami and Sri Krishna Jayanti. On this day the child Gopal form of Lord Shri Krishna is worshipped.

When will Janmashtami be celebrated this year

People keep fast on the day of Krishna Janmotsav and break their fast by distributing prasad after the birth of Kanha at 12 o’clock in the night. This year, the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month is starting from 03.37 pm on 6th September and it will end the next day on 7th September at 04.14 pm.

According to Puranas, Shri Krishna was born in Rohini Nakshatra at 12 o’clock in the night. According to this belief, the householders will celebrate their birth anniversary on 6th September. On this day, the coincidence of Rohini Nakshatra is also being formed. On the other hand, in the Vaishnava sect, there is a separate law for the worship of Shri Krishna. That’s why Janmashtami will be celebrated in the Vaishnav sect on 07th September.

Janmashtami fasting and worship method

In Janmashtami fast, worship is completed by fasting on Ashtami and fasting on Navami. One day before this fast i.e. on the day of Saptami, light and sattvic food should be taken. On the day of fasting, after taking bath in the morning, after saluting all the deities, sit facing east or north. Now take a vow of fasting by taking water, fruits and flowers in hand. Make a maternity house for Devki ji by sprinkling black sesame water in the afternoon. Now put a beautiful bed in this Sutika house and place an auspicious urn on it.

Establish an idol or a beautiful picture of Mother Devaki along with Lord Krishna. Devaki, Vasudev, Baldev, Nand, Yashoda and Lakshmi ji should duly worship by taking their names. This fast is broken only after 12 o’clock in the night. Grains are not used in this fast. Buckwheat flour dumplings, mawa barfi and water chestnut flour pudding can be consumed as fruits.
